Vitamin C prevents kidney stones?

Over doses of vitamin c are believed to be no good or non- beneficial. It was claimed that it can induce the formation of kidney stones. Over consumption or too much intake of this vitamin may have adverse effect which leads to kidney stones disease. This is a case of no control or over usage of it. It is using the vitamin without any limit or controlled prescription. But recent studies have proven this belief to be on the contrary.

Cases of people suffering from Kidney stones are very common. In fact it is one of the most popular diseases. The experience can be a very painful one too. Only recently, it is believed that vitamin c is a helpful vitamin in reducing the risk of kidney stones. Vitamin c-rich diet plays a vital role in treating and preventing the disease.

Consumption of large amounts of meat is not advisable for patients who are suffering from recurrent kidney stones because they are sensitive to the chemical by-products of animal protein and may trigger a recurrence.

High doses of vitamin c (i.e. more than 500mg per day) can result in high levels of oxalate in the urine and increase the risk for kidney stones. Therefore, kidney stone patients are advised to limit their intake of cranberries, which contain a moderate amount of oxalate if they are taking vitamin c in high doses.

A study was conducted to find out the relation between the intake of vitamin c and the risk of symptomatic kidney stones. It was found out that vitamin c intake was not associated with the risk of developing kidney stones.

A latest study also support that that vitamin c intake can reduce the risk of heart disease, and increase longevity and so its use was recommended. It was also proven that there was no increase in kidney stones formation due to the intake of vitamin c rather it was proven to reduce the risk of stones formation.

Doctors even support the use of vitamin c when they recommend the intake of orange juice and lemonade and other products that are rich in vitamin c. It is also said that vitamin c even helps to lower the risk of recurrence of the stones in patients prone to kidney stones or the ones who had already got the treatment for this similar disease.
